New release (5.35) addresses End of Year date changes

Next time you log into SMP you will be prompted to update SMP to the latest rev which is 5.35. The biggest issue this rev addresses consistent naming of the year so that there is no mistake which year you are looking at. Now, instead of YTD you will see "2002 Sell" which will change to "2003" Sell when your database rolls over. This is especially important this time of the year when you would expect YTD to be 2003 but it is not.

The update is available at www.salesmgmtplus.com

New Years Resolutions and SMP

The beginning of a new year is generally the time we make new promises, make new habits (only good I am sure) as well as concentrate on and resolve to do those things that will make us more successful in our lives and careers.  I would like to propose that SMP be part of the promises and commitments you make that can only help you advance in your success this coming year. There is a lot of "meat" to Sales Management Plus and it can do a lot of very neat things. Why not commit to learning some new feature.

May I recommend...

Establishing Goals and Potentials for your 2003 account planning. Setting Potentials and Goals will help you define those customers who have the ability to grow in sales. Once set on a customer level you will be able to monitor how close you are to hitting your goals from the Market Analysis screen.

Update your Customer and Contact information such as phone. cell and email information. Keeping this information up to date makes it easier for you or your marketing department to stay in touch.

Use Project Management to record and track those activities that will win "opportunities" for you. You can set up a project with just activities for you or involve the entire team.

Spend some time in Parts Analysis and really see what your customers are buying. You can perform OR, AND and  Missing Pairing ("This but not that") queries that will help you quickly assess your business strengths and weaknesses

Resolve not to wait. Spending the time now to plan will give you more time later for selling.

Adding Contacts to Marketing Lists easily and Quickly

SMP has many great built in features but one that I am particularly fond of is the ability to create Marketing lists. Depending on your needs Marketing Lists can range from all the contacts in the database, to a selected handful based on highly targeted criteria or somewhere in between.

We have covered creating marketing lists in a past issue so this time we will cover adding contacts to an existing marketing list easily and quickly.

There are several methods for adding contacts to existing marketing lists

Adding a contact from the Customer Module. This method is best when adding a new contact to the database and you want to add them to marketing lists

Add all contacts or several contacts from a company to one particular Marketing List. Use this when you need to update a marketing list with a few customers

Add Contacts from multiple companies into a marketing list quickly and easily. Use this when you need to add a lot of customers to a previously created marketing list.

Adding a contact from the Customer Module.

1. Select and open customer in Customer Module
2. Select a contact. The contacts information will appear on the right side of the screen
3. Click "Mktg Lists" tab to display all marketing lists in the database. Any list the contact is already on will be selected. Any "Web Enabled" is an "opt-out" list and the contact has the ability to remove themselves from the list
4. Select (or deselect) Marketing lists

Add all contacts or several contacts from a company to one particular Marketing List
1. Open "Mailers"
2. Open the marketing list you want to add contacts too.  (File / Marketing List / Select the list).  The list will be displayed in the main screen.
3. Click "Add Cntct" icon from the top menu
4. Search and Select the customer. One selected all contacts associated with that customer will be listed.
5. Choose "Add All" to add all contacts from selected customer into the marketing list OR click on contact to select and choose "Add Selected" to add just the selected contacts to marketing list. Select  more that one contact at a time by holding down the shift key while selecting

Add Contacts from multiple companies into a marketing list quickly and easily. This works good if you are asked to add contacts to a pre-created marketing list and your list is large. This method creates a list of your contacts which will then be appended to an existing list.

1. Using one of SMP's analytical tools (Market Analysis is the most often used tool for this) create a list of customers whose contacts should be added to the list
2. With the list created click on "Mailers" icon from the top menu bar. This will create a new marketing list with all contacts from the selected companies.
3. If needed, refine your list by removing those contacts who should not be on the final marketing list
•Uncheck those contacts who you do not want to be on the marketing list
•Choose “Selected Only” from the Select dropdown in Filter Criteria
•Click the run button to recalculate the list to contain only selected contacts

4. Append the list to an existing marketing list
       • With your list still visible select the marketing list you wish to append to (File /  Marketing Lists) .
DO NOT OPEN THE LIST OR YOU   WILL OVERWRITE YOUR LIST. You select a list by clicking the leftmost gray box
5. Click the Add To Button. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to append to this list.
6. Your list of contacts is now part of the Marketing list.
