Overcoming a Setup Loop while performing a full install of SMP

Operating System -Windows 2000

While installing SMP for the first time on a Windows 2000 Machine you are asked to update several operating system files. Once updated the system prompts you to reboot your machine. Once rebooted the installation procedure continues to prompt you to update the system files. This is caused by  Windows 2000 not allowing these files to be written the System Windows Directory. To resolve the issue be sure you have SP 2 for WIndows 2000 loaded

The files in question are:

ASYCFILT.dll            5/4/2001
MSVBVM60.dll         5/26/2000
OLEAUT32.dll           5/4/2001
OLEPRO32.dll          5/4/2001
STDOLE2.tlb            5/4/2001

Service pack 2 can be downloaded at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/default.asp

Operating System - Windows 98

If you experience a setup loop with the Windows 98 operating system this may be caused by your AntiVirus software. Reboot the computer as asked, Disable your AntiVirus software and begin installation again
